In The Crowd

Mardi Gras is more than parades and spectacle. It is movement, color, strangers pressed shoulder to shoulder, laughter spilling into the street, and quiet moments that unfold between the noise. I walked without an agenda, simply observing what revealed itself. These photographs are candid and unposed, small fragments of humanity gathered in one place for a shared experience. This is what I saw.

I am drawn to this kind of movement and energy. I love the way noise, color, and chaos overlap. In crowded streets, I don’t look for spectacle. I look for the human thread running through it. Even in the loudest moments, there is always something quiet revealing itself.

There’s something powerful about watching people step fully into creativity. I love the costumes, the color, the boldness of self-expression moving through the streets. Parades become more than performance; they become permission. For a moment, everyone participates in the art of it. I love photographing that freedom the way imagination shows up in fabric, gesture, and presence.

Eventually the parade moves on, the streets thin, and the glitter settles. Beads scatter across the pavement as bright remnants of celebration. What stays with me is the way people revealed themselves inside it. This was a space bold, playful, unguarded. In the middle of all that movement, there were moments of truth. Those are the ones I look for. Those are the ones I keep.
